Dana Scott on Stochastic Lambda Calculus

Lecture in honor of Raymond Smullyan. I guess this is why it opens with birdsong. See To Mock a Mockingbird.

At 25 minutes: it's unusual to find people who work at such high levels of abstraction and who also have a sound basic understanding of practical computing.

Slides are available in PDF here: https://simons.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/docs/5222/stochasticlambda-calculus.pdf from a later talk: https://simons.berkeley.edu/talks/dana-scott-08-28-2016

Given in May 2016, the day before leaving for the UK to do a lecture tour, including Oxford and Cambridge. Scott worked with Alonzo Church at Princeton, as did Smullyan. Smullyan apparently died on February 17, 2017. See Weird Stuff Going on With the British Press: Cambridge Evening News December 6, 2017.
