This is a USC film school production. Their motto is Reality Ends Here. I would like to start an institute with the motto Reality Starts Here, it probably needs to be primarily a psychiatric treatment centre, ... i.e. a place where you get to learn some real physics, ... But this idea of a loop at the edge of a black hole is not a bad place to start:

Angeles National Forest Loop Fire (1966)

The  Loop Fire was a firefighting accident in the Angeles National Forest (see  10,000 Acres of San Gabriel Mountain Forest Gone Up In Smoke ) that claimed the lives of a dozen firefighters in November 1966.  The day after the disaster a comprehensive study was ordered and you get the results here . It's a quite impressive piece of work and it is still being used half a century later to train firefighters. But an investigation like this should have been ordered after every major forest fire, regardless of whether or not it involved fatalities .
